E.L. Burton's Novel Conspiracy of Fear was a Semi-Finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel of the Year Contest

Ripped from today's headlines...Conspiracy of Fear by E. L. Burton is an action-packed conspiracy thriller that grabs you from page one. Medical Examiner Dr. Henry Stone finds himself at the center of an unfolding conspiracy where powerful individuals have set in motion a design to influence the most sacred of documents, the American Constitution. Stone's well ordered life is turned upside down when an ex-CIA operative delivers a cryptic message regarding a recent school shooting with possible connections to random acts of violence that are sweeping the country. Stone begins to consider that these random shooters are unwittingly manipulated into committing these acts and may well be victims themselves. At the center of this intricate plot is Pierce Thornhill, founder of a Pharmaceutical empire. Haunted by the untimely death of his father, Thornhill is determined to liberate America from its love affair with guns. To that end he has released a failed experimental military drug on an unsuspecting public. Thornhill is determined to create a new American revolution based on a Conspiracy of Fear.

The Man by the Lake was inspired by an actual event.  It is a highly personal story that hopes to pierce the veil between this life and what awaits us on the other side.  It is a story of hope and of faith that life has purpose.

Soft Money was inspired by the recent debate over campaign finance reform, and more specifically, the role that soft money has played in recent elections.  Several questions arise when looking at the vast amount of money that flows into campaign coffers.  What expectations exist behind the contributions?  Are the motives altruistic in nature or are they motivated by a thirst for power, and the advancement of an agenda?  Why are politicians resistant to change?

This novel explores those answers in a fictional account of one man’s rise to the Oval Office, and the men behind his transformation from attorney to politician.  Absolute power corrupts absolutely.  The Golden Rule states that he who has the gold makes all the rules.  What happens when those who practice the Golden Rule align themselves with the absolute power of the Presidency?  In Soft Money, one man finds himself at a crossroads in his life.   Should he pursue the shocking truth behind the man who was once a business associate, and is now the President?   Or should he stay loyal to the President and remain silent?   His decision will change his life, and alter the course of the nation.

Lawrence Brazelton is the central character.  Through a series of life choices, and the blind ambition of others, he has lost everything.  At his lowest point he meets Kelly Ford, an attractive and ambitious woman.  Armed with evidence that would topple an administration, he attempts to stay one step ahead of the men trying to silence him.  With his newfound love, and desire to reclaim his life, he embarks on a journey to bring the truth to the surface.  What starts as one mans desire to reclaim his life, cascades into a pool of deceit, greed, and an insatiable thirst for power.

The plot is well constructed,a rapid pace is maintained, the feeling of suspense continuing to the end... the politics and its machinations is very realistic.
